We begin the day traveling through the Mechouer to reach the impressive Dar el-Makhzen, the Royal Palace of Fez. Here, you will marvel at the seven magnificent bronze gates before proceeding to Borj Sud, a fortress that offers panoramic views of the sprawling Fez Medina. This stop provides a stunning introduction to the labyrinthine old city, a maze of narrow alleys and bustling souks that we will explore in detail throughout the day.
Next, we embark on a guided walking tour of Fez’s ancient Medina, a journey through time. You'll visit notable sites such as the el-Attarine Medrasa, a jewel of Islamic architecture, the lively Kissaria and Draz Quarters, and the famed Karaouine Mosque and University, one of the world’s oldest educational institutions. You will also get to see the famous tanneries along the Oued Fez, where traditional leather processing has been carried out for centuries.
Our tour continues with a visit to the Zaouia Moulay Idriss, a sacred religious site dedicated to the founder of Fez. We'll then stroll to el-Nejjarine Square, a charming area that boasts a beautiful plaza and an intricately decorated fountain. This is the perfect spot to rest and soak in the atmosphere of the Medina. Here, you'll also enjoy a light lunch in a traditional restaurant (drinks not included), offering a delightful taste of Fez’s culinary heritage.
As we journey through Fez, we’ll also visit iconic locations like the city's famous tanneries, the historic Mosques, and Medrasas, along with a stop at the Fes Pottery kilns, where traditional Moroccan ceramics are made. You will also have time to explore the lively Mellah (Jewish quarter), wander through the vibrant souks, and admire the artistic treasures housed at the Museum of Moroccan Art. Walking along the ramparts, you’ll discover the numerous babs (gates) that define the city’s historic boundaries.
